Update on Oasis/Cabrio f51 error codes

I continue to see more and more searches every day in reference to the f51 error codes on the Oasis and Cabrio machines. I've done a bit more looking (amazing how Google, Ask, and Yahoo can give such different results at the top), and have found several more references to the f51 codes. I'm guessing these errors are costing Sears and Whirlpool a LOT of money in warranty service.

The most common fix is to replace the speed sensor and the control board. I read a post at another site that indicated tests should be conducted to determine exactly which parts need to be replaced. However, it appears as if many servicers are taking the shotgun approach and just replacing both.

For the 27082, it looks like those components are part numbers 8565188A (speed sensor) and W10112113A (control board). Those parts will apply to other models, but not likely to all.

Do you own a Kenmore or Oasis or Whirlpool Cabrio? I would love to hear from you. Which model do you have? What do you like or dislike about them? Have you had any troubles?

Shoot me an email at power_draw01 at yahoo.com.

Love the machine, but at our house, we, too, were plagued by the infamous "F-51" error code. Not wanting to pay for a service call that probably wouldn't even resolve the issue (as I'd read in other blogs), we were having to run back to the machine several times to hit "Stop / Start" to finally get through many a load. Believe it or not, we went through this for several months, until the procedure ceased to work anymore.

At this point I had to get brave and open up the machine. It took only the removal of 3 screws to gain access to the control panel, where I unplugged, reseated, and wiggled every connection several times. Then I tilted the machine forward onto its face to get access to the open bottom. It took only the removal of one allen-head screw to remove the motor cover, then four bolts to remove the part of the motor that has all the coils. This gave access to two electrical connectors, one of which was the motor position sensor. I repeated the unplugging / replugging / wiggling procedure on both connections, then put things back together. And guess what? We haven't had a single re-occurrence of F51, or any other "F", ever since!

My guess is that it was re-seating the motor position sensor connection that did the trick. If you decide to give it a try, just remember to make sure you unplug your machine first, and avoid touching any circuit boards (don't want to zap any components with static electricity, y'know)!

I, too am an F51 club member. I was so irritated by Whirlpool's initial lack of response and apparent unwilliness to confess to the problem, that I've started my own blog specific to this issue. http://cabriof51error.blogspot.com

I have been plagued with the F51 error with the Cabrio machine. The service technician came out to supposedly fix the washer by levelling it out and reconnecting some loose connections. However within 5 minutes of him leaving and using the washer, the dreaded F51 error was back. I re-contacted the service guy who said the motor sensor needs to be replaced. The joke of it all is that the washer is 7 months old. I have used washers for years in the past with zero issues....I'll never buy another Whirhlpool....

Well.. my Cabrio washing machine has been in my house for less than 24 hours. We have the F51 error. I googled it after I couldnt get hold of anyone at the 800 number because of the time.

I wish I would have known about this before hand. Will get the service guy out today and see what happens.......

I bought my $1014 Oasis in 2006 and as soon as one year went by the f51 code began appearing. It steadily got worse and today (May 10,08)I am going to take the MPS off and try cleaning it per instructions from this blog site. The worse part of all of this is I am constantly in the dog house over this piece of crap. Thanks for the input from all of my fellow Oasis sufferers. The video on how to take the piece of junk apart is a great help too (found on this site). I wrote Consumer Reports about this problem and reference this site. Hope that is OK with..well anyone. Later, Dog House Mike

Yeah, I'm sure Consumer Reports would just get a kick out of the glowing praise I give them here.
